Horizontal Machining was incorporated on 12-4-1997. HMI started with 5 original employees and two machining centers. At the time HMI only machined parts, and most of our work was overflow from other manufacturers. After a few years it was apparent that the market was changing and a large number of Original Equipment Manufacturers were looking to purchase welded, machined, and painted components. This required substantial growth.
On 2-24-2005 HMI was incorporated into Horizontal Machining and Manufacturing Inc. (HMMI). At this time HMMI purchased a local weld shop which allowed us to grow quickly and add large high tech machining centers. HMMI also invested in welding robots and other automated equipment such as line welding and laser cutting machines. Over the years our production equipment and lifting capability has been moving toward heavy, larger products that many small manufactures cannot produce.
In 2014 HMMI took on the next step of growth with our customers. A crane assembly area was added and HMMI is now delivering completely assembled upper crane sections. This facility allows us to complete, assemble, test, and ship 190ft crane uppers to the industry. Horizontal Machining and Manufacturing Inc. is located in eastern South Dakota with the ability to produce large structural weldments. Our over 100,000-square-foot facility with state-of-the-art indoor steel storage allows us to keep a large selection of raw material on hand to meet the needs of today’s build-to-demand market.
